Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon Mr Andrew James Cossey FRCS, MBBS Affiliated to Royal College of Surgeons, England and British Orthopaedic Association
Mr Andrew Cossey's medical school training was at Kings College, London. Having qualified, he spent the first two years of his training in London gaining experience in Accident and Emergency and also demonstrating anatomy at St George’s Medical School. He then went to Wessex having been accepted on a Basic Surgical Training programme. Having completed this he was awarded a registrar rotation in Trauma and Orthopaedics in the same region. He gained valuable experience working for many experienced surgeons and was awarded his FRCS (Tr & Orth), being placed on the GMC special register in 2005. Mr Cossey’s main surgical emphasis is on the treatment of sports-related knee injuries and knee replacement surgery. Mr Cossey has significant experience in all forms of knee surgery including ligament reconstruction, knee replacement surgery (unicompartmental knee replacement and total knee replacement), arthroscopic knee surgery, realignment surgery and chondral resurfacing of the knee. Mr Cossey’s only surgical interest is related to the knee joint and therefore he has gained a large volume of experience in both non-operative and operative treatments for knee conditions. Mr Cossey is a big believer in accelerated rehabilitation programmes following surgical intervention. He works closely with several rehabilitation units in the Portsmouth region their goal to achieve successful early rehabilitation of all knee conditions. Mr Cossey has multiple publications in the orthopaedic literature. These range from total knee arthroplasty, unicompartmental knee arthroplasty, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and patellofemoral malalignment procedures. Mr Cossey has multiple active research projects including chondral resurfacing with new scaffolds, fixation of ligament reconstructions, analysis of the interface of knee replacements and bone following knee replacement surgery. |
